My name is Deb Mayer. I am an amateur artist just getting started. I have been painting and drawing for years as a hobby and have decided to make my work more public. I have displayed at Metropolitan at the 9 in downtown Cleveland, as well as Ohio City Galley, the North Olmstead City Hall, the Westlake Library and the Old Firehouse in Avon Lake. For the past few years, I have been working with Joann De Polo, an established professional artist whose talent is an inspiration to me. I have learned many new techniques, and I love to experiment with different tools and media. My work is mostly abstract, although I also do charcoal drawings, photography and glass painting. I love doing abstract paintings because they reflect my feelings and emotions. Sometimes it feels as if the painting just happens. It seems to tell me what it needs to be complete. I’m not too concerned about appealing to the masses. Art is very personal. It should generate a feeling or emotion or reaction. A lot of people don’t like abstract art because it doesn’t look like anything familiar, and sometimes makes them uncomfortable. I like exploring new approaches, experimenting with new techniques, always pushing beyond what I know. I am always learning
